A sister in-law is accused of killing her husband and wounding her sister with a hammer, authorities said Wednesday.
Sarah D. Mims, 44, is charged with first-degree murder and manslaughter, according to a news release from the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities said they learned about the shooting at a home in the 5200 block of N. C. 16th Street about 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday and were alerted to the crime about a half-hour later.
The suspect was found with gunshot wounds to her neck and torso and died at the scene, Cumberland Township police said.
The suspect’s husband and the other victim were taken to the hospital.
The Cumberland Sheriff’s Office said Mims told them the couple had recently moved into the home, and that they had moved in together a month ago.
The husband is listed as deceased.
The couple had two children and had recently started a new job in Cumberland, the news release said.
Authorities are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
