Arizona’s controversial new gun law is causing an uproar among gun owners and even lawmakers.
The new law allows for the purchase of assault rifles and high-capacity magazines, but the vast majority of the guns in the state come from out-of-state buyers.
But a group of lawmakers and gun control advocates is calling for a national boycott of the state.
Snell, a Republican who’s currently seeking a third term in the Arizona House, is one of several Republican lawmakers in Arizona who are opposed to the bill.
The Arizona House passed a version of the law last week, and a group called the Arizona Coalition to Stop Gun Violence released a statement Thursday that calls the law a “dangerous and irresponsible step forward for our nation’s criminals.”
The statement calls the new law “the latest in a series of actions by President Donald Trump that threaten to turn Arizona into a nation of lawless thugs, criminals and murderers.”
It also says that the bill “will be used to target Arizonans for the sake of political gain.”
The coalition is urging people to boycott Arizona.
